The Drawing Center’s annual Benefit Auction + Party takes place on Wednesday, September 28, with an evening of music and cocktails, and a silent auction featuring works on paper generously donated by more than eighty-five leading artists, including Takashi Murakami and Jonas Wood. Funds raised through this event provide crucial support for the Drawing Center’s ambitious roster of exhibitions, publications, education initiatives, and public programs.

Brooklyn Talks
Takashi Murakami and Joan Cummins

In conjunction with the exhibition Hiroshige’s 100 Famous Views of Edo (feat. Takashi Murakami) at the Brooklyn Museum, Murakami and curator Joan Cummins will discuss the artist’s new series of fantastical paintings that respond to Utagawa Hiroshige’s 100 Famous Views of Edo (1856–58), now on view at the museum for the first time in twenty-four years. Cummins and Murakami will also reflect on Hiroshige’s contributions to global art history and his role as a witness to and chronicler of environmental and social change.

The series, now available through holly hunt, reintroduces the first chair and table that Kagan ever designed—part of Eitel’s efforts to honor the furniture avant-gardist’s legacy while carrying the company into the future.

Combining scholarship, compassion, and a rich understanding of the world Darling inhabited, Carr’s follow-up to her biography of the artist David Wojnarowicz elucidates the incredible struggles that Darling faced in the course of her determined journey toward a more glamorous, more honest, and more tender world.
