Monday, 17 October - Friday, 21 October 2005, 6 - 11pm ("Service Complet")
Saturday, 22 October - Saturday, 26 November 2005
Gagosian Gallery is delighted to announce the opening of Gelitin's "Sweatwat," which will be open for "Service Complet" for one week only, in the evenings from 6pm until 11pm, Monday to Friday, October 17th through the 21st.
Gelitin conceives the "Sweatwat":
"to feel like a humongous implosion, sucking you into deep and profound chaos, instability, joy and pure wonder. It offers visitors a chance to relax, paddle and freak out. Fresh clean waterfalls, slimy sofa islands, bridges of fear and beauty, all these miracles are made from leftovers of living and provide the terrain of the 'Sweatwat.'
Each of the five evenings will be open for the joy and relaxation of everybody. Yoga, dancing, drinking, singing, simple or sophisticated pleasures. 'Sweatwat' is there for you. Deliver your body and if you happen to have a cello at home bring it along. You will be welcome to don a robe, hang-out and soak up the treats in store at the spa-like atmosphere of the 'Sweatwat.'"
From October 22nd until November 26th the detritus of the week of indulgence will be on view during regular gallery hours.
Gelitin is a group of four artists working together in Vienna - Tobias Urban, Wolfgang Gantner, Florian Reither and Ali Janka. They met in 1978 and formed a partnership in 1993. Gelitin have shown in many international exhibitions including "Dionysiac," at the Centre Pompidou, Paris and the first Moscow Biennial, both earlier this year. In 2003 they were commissioned to make a performance for the first Frieze Art Fair, London, and in 2002 they made events for the Gwangju and Liverpool Biennials. Gelitin represented Austria at the 2001 Venice Biennale. Later this year they will appear in the first Performance Biennial in New York and the Art Sheffield 05 citywide forum opening October 28th.
