Sarabande Foundation, London
sarabandefoundation.org
Rachel Whiteread will be in conversation with Tim Marlow, director of the Design Museum, London, for the next installment in the series of INSPIRED talks organized by the Sarabande Foundation. The pair will discuss Whiteread’s recent and current projects and delve into the twists and turns of her creative career to date—from concept to form, and everything in between. Using industrial materials such as plaster, concrete, resin, rubber, and metal to cast everyday objects and architectural elements, Whiteread’s sculptural works are instantly recognizable as evocative interrogations of negative space, from the domestic to the monumental.
This event was originally scheduled for Wednesday, December 6, 2023.

ICRA Annual Conference 2022
Legacy: The Artist’s View
Thursday, December 1, 2022, 9:30am
Cromwell Place, London
icra.art
The International Catalogue Raisonné Association conference will give artists, their families, and catalogue raisonné authors space to articulate their thoughts on the theme of legacy. Engaging with the question of posterity, the conference asks how a family’s closeness to the artist can be both a blessing and a challenge, and thinks about ways in which later generations as well as nonfamily members can address issues surrounding an artist’s continued relevance. Edmund de Waal will be the keynote speaker and Michael Craig-Martin and Rachel Whiteread will contribute to the conference as well. The in-person and online event will include a question-and-answer session.

Rachel Whiteread × Migrate Art
Limited-Edition Print
Rachel Whiteread has partnered with Migrate Art, an organization that raises money for displaced and homeless communities around the world, to create House (2023), a limited-edition hand-finished archival pigment print. Proceeds from the sale of these prints will be donated to Refugee Community Kitchen, which supports homeless people in London, with each edition sold raising enough funds to provide eight hundred hot meals. The print is based on an original work that Whiteread created with colored pencils that Migrate Art salvaged from the wreckage of the Calais “Jungle,” a refugee camp in northern France that was demolished in 2016.

Deep Time: Commissions for the Lake District Coast Shortlist
Rachel Whiteread has been shortlisted to design a landmark artwork for the West Cumbrian coastline in northwest England as part of the public art program Deep Time: Commissions for the Lake District Coast. Whiteread has proposed to make a facsimile copy of an abandoned corrugated building, creating an “eerie double presence” of an existing structure. . . . And the Animals Were Sold
June 23–October 29, 2023
Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo, Italy
www.gamec.it
. . . And the Animals Were Sold is a new installation by Rachel Whiteread in Bergamo’s Palazzo della Ragione that was commissioned by Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo, Italy. Conceived in relation to the city, the architecture of the site, and the history of the region, it comprises sixty sculptures whose forms correspond to the empty space between the legs of two different chair models. Produced with local types of stone, the works suggest human absence and presence at once. Their arrangement evokes both the social distancing of the pandemic, which was particularly difficult for the Bergamo community, and the renewed proximity that is now possible.
