This catalogue accompanied a Gagosian Gallery exhibition of David Smith's monumental sculptures made between 1962 and 1964. Smith often worked on several series simultaneously, insisting that they be understood as continuous parts of his concept, rather than as variations on a theme. Representative of the four major series that Smith was working on at the time of his premature death—Voltri, Cubi, Primo Piano, and Gondola—these works give a concise indication of the depth and range of the artist's vision. A text by the artist's daughter, Candida Smith, is included.
