This monograph, published in 2008 on Cecily Brown's work, surveys the development of her paintings over the last ten years. Brown draws readily from Renaissance masters through her attention to the nude form and modern painters in her abstraction of the figure, among other art historical references. The resulting work is a puzzle of varying imagery, maintaining a tension between the bold formal qualities of her canvases and the intimate figurative content concealed beneath the surface.
