Gagosian Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of an exhibition of the latest work of Philip Taaffe.
Philip Taaffe's recent paintings delve deeper into the artist's explorations of the natural world. Pictographs, skulls and teeth are new elements in the artist's vocabulary, referring back to man's earliest expressions of the magic and wonderment of nature, and the impulse to mediate the powers found there. Birds, starfish, and dragonflies complement elements of formal design, which are drawn from architecture, the decorative arts, and the artist's imagination. These new works are among the most painterly of the artist's career, and embody the pictorial vividness and unlikely beauty for which the artist is known.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalog with an essay by Rene Ricard.
