Visitors to the upcoming show at the Gagosian Gallery in SoHo should prepare for a unique sculptural experience: Mark di Suvero has created a monumental new sculpture that so completely fills the interior space of the room that the viewer is placed directly inside the sculpture. Spanning the entire length of the gallery and stretching into each corner, di Suvero's enormous steel creation envelops the viewer as it challenges and confronts the indoor space.

The debut of the new di Suvero sculpture launches what promises to be an exciting season for the artist, which includes a city-wide exhibition of his monumental works in Paris scheduled to open on September 15. Sites for the Paris show, which will run through November 1997, include the Esplanade des Invalides, Saint Germain des Prés, and La Nouvelle Bibliothèque Nationale de France. This exhibition represents di Suvero's second major outdoor show in Paris. In 1975 he was the first living artist to be honored with a sculpture show in the Tuileries Gardens.
